What are the ways that preserving biodiversity locally have an affect globally: One of the ways that preserving biodiversity in one area, may affect the whole world is: the preservation of plants, animals, and different species in one are that may be extinct in another. this can have an affect globally because if the species goes extinct, then you have somewhere that it is being preserved, and therefor it is not totally extinct.
How do habitat destruction and loss of species affect more than just one area: if you have a very rare animal of plant, and it is native to only one area in the entire world, and it suddenly disappears because of habitat destruction or it was destroyed, it would have an effect on the rest of the world because it would be wiped off of the great map of existence completely, the only people who would remember or know of its existence at some time would die and then its memory would be completely gone, and once that is done, nothing can be done to get it back.
How does preserving biodiversity enhance the life of people: studies done by scientists actually did discover that there is a substance in natural, good earth and dirt that releases positive chemicals/enzymes that make you feel better, you are also naturally happy when your near nature, wether it be controlled or natural. Another way, is medicine, penicillin for example, we use it in the simplest of ways, but if we were suddenly unable to use it, or it was forever gone to humanity, the chaos it would cause would be unthinkable, sickness easily cured before would be harder to get rid of, and old sicknesses previously cured by penicillin. if biodiversity suddenly, and without explanation disappeared off of the face of the earth, then life would (probably literally) turn gray as stone and boring as watching the paint that contributed to the disappearance dry on the new house you just bought. we would be one of the only sentient being on the planet, plants we use and eat everyday would be gone, animals we love and cherish would disappear, and we would be utterly, and completely, alone in the world.

Gasses and climate change
the alcohol will combust, and it will inflate the bottle, when (teacher) puts the lighter inside, and lights it.
what happened: i was sort of right, it inflated the bottle, made a large "WSHHHHHHH" sound, and it flew across the room.
combustion and other gasses affect the planet in ways that are good, and ways that aren't so good, they trap heat in, and that can be both good and bad. when heat is trapped in the icy area start to melt, and the hot areas become even more hot, but the cold areas warm up, and some uninhabitable-due-to-extreme-cold areas become habitable.

I think that when (teacher) introduces the gas to the catalyst, it will ignite, but not provide enough thrust to make the beaker fly.
What happened: the trapped gas did exactly the opposite of combusting, it put the candles out.
Co2 has a negative effect on the environment, and a positive one. it helps to fuel trees, plants, and other plant based organisms, but it has a negative effect and is released into the atmosphere when that thing dies.
i think that when it is introduced to the flames, that it will not combust, and it will float to the ceiling harmlessly.
What happened: it did just the opposite... again.... once the zinc was introduced it started to produce gas, and when lit it burned until the fuel source(the gas) ran out.
Pros: renewable, energy storable. renewable, long lasting, no emissions. The general decline of available oil. renewable
Cons: still releases greenhouse gasses. Costly installing fee. The lack of fallback fossil fuels. more costly than hydro electricity
I think that the can might expand if covered, and it will flow out of the can.
What happened: nothing at all, as (teacher) moved the can from the hotplate into the ice bin, nothing happened.
I think that the can will either expand, or the steam will flow out of the can through the can.
What happened: my second prediction was right. the steam flew out of the can, and the lack of air in it crushed it.

Chernobyl article reflection
I read article NO. one, http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/science/nature/743879.stm#top
The general gist of what it was about was how the radiation is taking so much longer than estimated to be absorbed back into the environment, and how the half-life is increasing in the radiation, and how the things they said would be ok to consume, won't be for another several years.
QUESTIONS: How long is the new half-life of the radiation?
How long was the previous half life?
How s the radiation being absorbed and passed up the food chain?

Chernobyl questions
1) how much radiation is still In the area?
2) how did the incident start?
3)how much radiation was released in the explosion?
4) how many people were killed in the first stage?

townsperson questions for the panel
001)what impact will the chemicals have on the previous residents in the long run?
002)what will you do if the cap over the canal breaks open?
003) what if the chemicals leak out through the bottom of the canal, and into the surrounding environment?
004)what are some of the long term effects of the toxic waste leakage?
005)what are some of the effects on the animal life around love canal?

8-30-10 catalyst
1) The chemicals started to be pushed to the surface by the water drainage or the recently flooded river from snowmelt.
2) A few of the health hazards associated with the love canal chemicals, were miscarriages, slight retardation, and asthma were only a few of the total hazards.
3) the ecosystem around the area was affected by the chemicals seeping into the nearby creeks, and water-ways and traveling downstream, and the chemicals seeping into the earth and killing plant life and underground eco-systems.

Hazards of oil dispersants
I found that although much of the oil is gone, it still poses a
large threat to the reopened beaches that are oiled. The oil is depositing along the beaches, were people and children play. It also could sink and affect the clams and birds along the shore. It has now become a public health hazard along the gulf of mexico's beaches.

Chemical dispersants
what will chemical dispersants do to the remaining environment after the oil is gone?
how much dispersant is currently in the ocean?
how will it affect our future lives and those of the ones around us?
